This video is taken from a solar hot water & central heating system at 10:30 (this morning) July 31st, 2010.

It has been raining all morning and weather is very poor all week. The rain cloud is heavy and low.

This is live telemetry from a solar hot water system in Co Offaly. It shows today (July 31st, 2010) and the previous 3 days. The weather this week has been very poor with cloud and rain and this morning has been especially poor. Notice that ALL the hot water is used every morning in this installation and the system has to heat from scratch EVERY DAY. You can see from this solar system that it has been designed to meet minimum 40C even in very bad weather.

(40C is the max. temperature humans can tolerate)

This system is a 300L cylinder with 4.85 sqm of SP501 solar panels, (that's a smaller size aperture than 2 regular flat plate collectors) yet it has the performance of 10 flat plate collectors and several old style vacuum collectors.

100% of hot water even in rain and bad weather !

The temperature of the water in this 300L system has now achieved 100% of temperature requirements at 2:20 pm even though it is heavily overcast and raining all day.

This system was cold this morning so it has heated itself from scratch.

The system is only 4.85 sqm aperture, less than the size of 2 flat plates collectors.

The SP501 solar collector has been developed with the support of government agencies over the last 7 years. It is a scientific breakthrough over the legacy solar collectors which are flat plate or heat pipe vacuum. These legacy collectors trace their origins back as early as 1896. The SP501 is a scientific solar collector versus the legacy "craft" (mechanical) developed solar collectors.

• The SP501 uses a number of scientific methods; one is called "Thermal Amplification". This patented technology consists of a proprietary metalwork which reacts with a particular element in the circuit fluid and creates a natural thermal amplification of the collector heat. This process was developed to allow the collector create very high temperatures for solar air conditioning and refrigeration. The end result of this is that the collector does not lose its heat like legacy collectors. This is why the systems perform very strong in bad weather and makes excellent solar hot water and solar heating systems. This also allows it to have an operational design life of 50 years.
• The SP501 also uses a proprietary thermal power factor which allows the collectors operate at maximum power efficiency at ALL times. You can see in the video above that the system is pulling approx. 3kw's of solar heat, maintaining 54C in the collectors (delta T of 9C) AND its raining heavily outside. This TPPT (thermal power point tracking) is also a development for solar air conditioning but has huge power benefits for solar hot water and solar heating performance.
