Surface Power's unique design and testing program has delivered advanced solar technologies resulting in the worlds most productive solar thermal system. What makes this product ultra unique is that while it performs in sunny climates; it was designed and optimised for poor European cloudy and wet climate conditions. Solar can be an all year round opportunity even in poorer climates. This allows it be used for central heating and refrigeration, something not considered by the legacy solar thermal as even possible.

The company is works with strategic partners in the area of home heating/hot water, air conditioning, refrigeration. It offers unrivaled support in the areas of solution provision and technical expertise. Support services include pre sales, installation, training and maintenance on all products and solutions. Surface Power has offices in UK, USA, Ireland & New Zealand.

  • # 2003 - Began research into DFNMT solar collectors, (long life, high performance)
  • # 2004 - Started development of first DFNMT solar product

Surface Power's research program is heavily based on advanced semiconductor technology along with advanced communications and controls technology. Solar thermal technology that is being developed by Surface Power is far more productive than legacy solar thermal technology which is over 40 years old but can be traced back to the USA in the 1890's. Its also an important aspect of SP's developments that the cost of ownership is highly reduced and the lifetime of the equipment is much longer than the existing legacy product.

Solar thermal technology is now being engineered by scientists specialising in advanced chemistry, fluid dynamics, thermo dynamics, applied physics and semiconductor engineering. Solar Thermal Engineering is no longer a mechanical or plumbing discipline.

Surface Power's patent program is now 8 years old in solar thermal and patents cover many different areas of the technology. Surface Power uses a completely different approach to generating energy from this daylight source. The existing method has been to use differential temperature controllers to perform simple pump ON/pump OFF action. In contrast to that low energy approach, SP have developed the worlds first MPPTt (Maximum Power Point Tracking - thermal) technology. This replaces the old style DTC method and is built in to all our systems. It allows our systems to operate in "Boiler" mode delivering very high temperatures even in small domestic systems.
